Good food is known to improve patient outcomes and public health, and hospitals have a duty to provide the very best, safest food to their patients at every meal.

The Catering Mark provides a robust framework and inspected award recognising that hospital meals are fresh, ethical, sustainable and meet the nutritional element of the Government Buying Standards.

If you’re in England or Wales, holding the Catering Mark can contribute to your PLACE scores, helping to verify CQC standards in relation to food and hydration, and also providesyou with the opportunity to unlock CQUIN payments.

The Soil Association Catering Mark Standards is an independent endorsement of your food quality and a clear signal to your staff, visitors, patients and the public about your commitment to good food.

Pelican has become a member of the Soil Association’s Catering Mark Supplier Scheme to fully support our customers in successfully gaining the Catering Mark award.

How we can help you:

» We work with you to produce a list of ingredients which comply with Catering Mark award standards (free from undesirable additives, trans fats, farm-assured meat, free range eggs) and support the requirements at inspection with placing restrictions on non-compliant products.

» We understand the Catering Mark inspection process and can help you prepare the evidence to demonstrate that food safety standards are being met (BRC certification, for example) for all relevant suppliers through Pelican.

» Our award-winning online tool, Pi, enable you to instantly monitor your progress and access the evidence to demonstrate your compliance. For example you can print all your purchase history to demonstrate that you are only purchasing compliant ingredients.

» Our registered dietitian provides menu support and training.
