The demand for more plant-based meals in schools is growing as children, young people and parents become more aware of environmental pressures and the health benefits of eating more plant-based foods.

Indeed, including a ‘plant protein day’ in schools is one of the recommendations of the State of the Nation report.

Benefits of serving more plant-based dishes include:

  • Helps meet meal preferences of an increasing number of pupils, parents and teachers
  • A greener food choice
  • Cost-effective for school budgets
  • Good for gut health
  • Offers a choice that covers a range of dietary requirements and needs
  • Increases fruit and vegetable consumption, meeting ‘5 a day’
